Innovative and unique

Climasoft Art has been designed in order to preserve old paintings on wooden panel, thanks to a new system for stabilising microclimate, the first source of risk for those artworks. It follows an innovative and unique criterion, published in the specialised literature and subjected to patent.

Where, how and why to use it

Light and flexible, its structure is almost invisible and generally does not needs screens on the painted side, significantly improving viewing of the work and the possibilities of its direct inspection. Can protect paintings of any dimension and type of hanging process and can also serve as climate protection for works moved from their usual climate, for example for exhibitions, unlike climaboxes.

Durable, economic and open to inspection

It protects works on display, in storage and on the move, with an almost invisible structure, which facilitates immediate inspection. It can be installed quickly, is very light, does not make the work heavy in any way and does not require special maintenance. Its cost makes it accessible to a vast range of paintings, unlike climaboxes and climaframes.

Why it is better than existing climatic devices

Climasoft Art is the only one to preserve painted wood thanks to a new concept and a technologically advanced membrane, which delays and controls changes of humidity. The changes are the first cause of structural instability of the support and therefore this imposes risk to the work. When compared to existing systems, it costs much less. Also, it does not interfere with viewing of the work (see “old” Angelico climabox image), and does not require maintenance. Furthermore, it does not present risks due to mold, detachment of sharp parts or contact with chlorides which are contained in the most used internal buffer (risky for human health and for metallic-based colours).

About us

Andrea G. De Marchi is the scientific consultant. He, after a short debut as a restorer, has dedicated himself to the history of art for over 40 years, deepening a “clinical” examination of works of art based on style, but with great attention to material. Among the thousands of his attributions based on forms, he has reestablished the origin of some panels by identifying the timber species.

 Thanks to contact with Pierpaolo Monfardini, he understood that conservation of the work of art depends on support stability and, in relation to the climate, with variables related to the time and intensity of exchanges of humidity. After many years of observations and experiments, he came to focus on this device. For some works, he used the assistance of specialists in restoration as well as in physics and chemistry topics.

His friend Osvaldo Mazza, entrepreneur and expert collector, proposed and supported the configuration of a product that would synthesise and perfect these lengthy experiences in the field of panel conservation. Hence the patent and the commercial offer.
